Biographical Information:

As a woman who uses a manual wheelchair I frequently counsel children and adults facing adversity who are striving for an identity and value beyond the boundaries a disability can present.  I have previously held a position on Washington’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment and have served as a Master Resilience Trainer with the US Army. I am also a former Ms. Wheelchair Washington, 2009 and First Runner-Up Ms. Wheelchair America, 2010. Holding this title(s) allowed my perspective to broaden. My worldview became full of people with an array of gifts and abilities. It was amazing to encounter others striving to become their best selves. Working for the military for over a decade has given me a unique insight into military culture and its role in one’s identity and the vital part Families play in the dynamics of a military career. I am married with one wonderful daughter.  I enjoy art and movies and believe physical health is paramount to spiritual well-being.

Therapeutic Style:

I have a diverse background working with children as a school counselor and with the military  population including the Service Member and Families. I counsel clients from a  primarily cognitive behavioral perspective. The children I counseled came from a diverse background with a myriad of challenges including living with a disability/ chronic pain, socio-economic concerns, gang association, cultural differences and familial separation. Many of my clients have experienced various types of trauma and drastic changes to their roles and relationships after a medical and or behavioral health diagnosis.  I have counseled both children and adults in individual and group settings.

Life is a remarkable experience. Our relationship with ourselves, past events and interactions with others can wound us deeply and hinder our growth, our goals and our journey toward self-awareness. I believe the counseling relationship should be a collaborative partnership. The aim of the relationship is to allow clients to explore and actively pursue a healing process by recognizing both untapped strengths and maladaptive thoughts impacting day to day life. I consider it a privilege to join my clients who have bravely taken steps toward a full, well-balanced perspective that acknowledges setbacks and recognizes victories.
