Fourteen years of that time was spent with a nationally recognized agency called Homebuilders, working with families in crises in their homes. She works with individuals, families and couples in whatever combination seems most suitable to effectively achieve progress. She has written and presented a variety of workshops on Emotion Management, Stess Managment and Step-parenting. She co-authored the curriculum for the "Breaking Free" parenting workshops. Approach: Karen's therapeutic orientation is cognitive/behavioral. She often has a teaching/homework style that brings difficult issues down to a practical level. Usually specific goals are targeted to achieve greater progress through new skills learned. When appropriate, prayer and scripture are incorporated into the sessions. Biographical Information: Karen has been married twenty three years and has three children. In addition to her counseling practice, she has worked as a school counselor and as an EAP counselor. |
